本句型是議論文中典型的用于比較兩個事物優缺點的句型，主要用在文章中間。議論文中如果需要討論兩個對立的或者值得比較的事物時，本句型就可以在談論后者的開頭出現。
本句型中的compared with可以替換為其他一些表示對比的短語。如:in contrast to或者unlike。在替換時，A和B需要保持形式一致，即都為名詞或者動名詞短語等，并且句子的謂語應該隨著B的單復數形式變化而變化。
