over the years , the gr ea t majority of men have successfully resisted all a ttempts to make them change their style of dress . t he same cannot be said of women . each year a few so called“ top designers”in pa ris and london lay down the law and women the whole world over rus h to obey . t his yea r , they decide in their a rbitr ary fashion , skir ts will be shor t and waists will be high; zip s are in and buttons ar e out . next year the law is r eversed and fa r from taking exception , no one is even mildly surprised .
if women a re mercilessly exploited year afte r year , they have only themselves to blame , becau se they ar e afr aid of the thought of being seen in public in clothes that ar e out of fashion . they a re an nually blackmailed by the designe rs and the big stores . clothes which have been worn only a few times have to be discarded because of old fas hion .when you come to think of it , only a woman is capable of standing in f ront of a wardrobe packed full of clothes and announcing tha t she has nothing to wear .
changing fashions ar e nothing more than the deliber ate creation of waste . many women spend vast sums of money each year to r eplace clothes that have hardly been worn . women who cannot af ford to disca rd clothing in this way , waste hour s of their time altering the dresses they have . fas hion designe rs ar e ra rely concerned with vit al things like warmth , comfort and dur ability . they are only inter ested in outward appea rance and they take advantage of the fact that women will put up with any amount of discomfort , providing they look charming and att ractive .
when comparing men and women in the mat ter of fashion , the conclusion to be drawn is obvious . do the constantly changing fas hion of women’s clothes r eflect basic qualities of fickleness and instability ?do men’s unchanging styles of dress reflect basic qualities of stability and r eliability ? t his is for you to decide
