English is getting more important
The past year 2001 was a great year in the history of China. Inspiring events occured one after another. For example, in July 2001, China succeeded in winning the right of holding the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing. In Nov of the same year, China joined in the WTO. At last, that means we Chinese have more chances to communicate with people from all parts of the world. Therefore, English is getting more and more important. It is said that in Beijing more and more people are leanring English in their spare time. The number of people learning English is nearly 70% larger than that of last few years. Even the taxi drivers have been asked to be able tospeak 100 words and expressions of everyday English. Nowadays, we Chinese are crazy about English learning.
