在托福考試中，尤其是口語和寫作部分，經常會考到如Do you prefer to eat prepared food or food made by yourself？這類討論飲食的題目。或者例如Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live? 這類把食物與生活質量相聯系的寫作題。今天我們就來整理一下與“食”相關的諺語。
與蔬菜有關的諺語
1. salad days （“青蔥”歲月， 也就是年輕少不更事，沒有閱歷的一段時間。）
John was in his salad days then and fell in love easily.
約翰當時少不更事，輕易就墜入了情網。
2. beet red （窘得）滿臉通紅。
When she realized her mistake, she turned beet red.
她意識到自己出錯時，滿臉通紅。
3. like two peas in a pod （一模一樣）
The twins are like two peas in a pod.

3. as cool as a cucumber （泰然自若）

4. hot potato （棘手的問題）

與“茶”有關的諺語
As useful as a chocolate teapot 中看不中用。
This course is as good as a chocolate teapot, so I want to quit next semester.
這門課毫無用處，下學期我想把它退掉。
A storm in a tea cup/a tempest in a teapot 小題大做。
The whole affair is just a tempest in a teapot. In a couple of months everyone will have forgotten about it.
整件事都不過是小題大做而已，過不了多久，人們就會徹底忘記這事的。

I realize a fantasy computer game is not everyone’s cup of tea, but this one is amazing. 我知道不是每個人都迷那些虛幻的電腦游戲，不過這個游戲真的很好玩。
