美國內戰期間，南軍將領尤厄爾見北軍一位騎兵軍官奮不顧身鼓舞麾下將士作戰，敬他英勇，下令不要向他開槍。
但尤厄爾光風霽月的胸懷，卻換得「石壁」杰克遜一頓訓斥。杰克遜一針見血的指出：「打死勇敢的軍官，怕死的就會帶手下望風而逃。」
【附注】杰克遜是南軍高級將領，也是美國歷代最出色軍事家之一。他在強敵猛攻之下仍能堅守陣地，贏得「石壁」的綽號。
