The Nut

Not far outside the village， two boys found a nut under a nut-tree. “It's mine，” shouted Ignatius， “I saw it first.” “No，” insisted Bernard， “because I picked it up first.”
And soon there began an argument between them.
“I'll fix things up for you，” said a youth who happened to pass by. He put himself between the two boys and opening the nut said to them： “Half a shell to who saw the nut first and half a shell to who picked it up first. ”I'll keep the rest for my trouble. In such a way，“ he added smilingly， ”do the greater part of arguments end up.“
