The Ministry of Education said it ordered local education authorities to remove all substandard running tracks at schools after children reportedly fell sick from exposure to artificial turf.
The MOE said it invited environmental protection and quality inspection authorities to check all newly-built synthetic racetracks at schools nationwide during the upcoming summer school break, and immediately remove substandard ones.
Construction of all synthetic racetracks will be suspended until the bidding process and the contracts for construction are reviewed by authorities to ensure their quality, it said.
The development came after students in Beijing reportedly suffered from nosebleeds, dizzy spells and coughs, after running on the tracks. Similar cases were reported in Jiangsu, Guangdong and other provinces, adding to concern over poor quality supervision of a product that affects the health of students.
It also will coordinate with relevant authorities to up requirements for installation of synthetic running tracks in schools and strengthen supervision over racetrack manufacturers.
Schools must give quality the top priority in the bidding process of racetrack construction projects, it said, adding that those responsible for the substandard and even "toxic" running tracks will be "severely punished with no mercy."
教育部日前表示，已要求地方教育部門鏟除所有不合格的校園跑道，此前有報道稱孩子因接觸人造草坪而生病。
教育部表示已邀請環保、質監部門在即將到來的暑假期間，對全國學校的所有新建塑膠跑道進行排查，并立即鏟除不合格跑道。
教育部表示，所有塑膠跑道的施工將暫停，跑道的招標過程及施工合同經有關部門審查，確保施工質量后方可繼續施工。
事件起因是北京有學生被報道在跑道上跑步之后出現了流鼻血，頭暈以及咳嗽等癥狀。江蘇，廣東以及其他省也有類似的事件發生，引起了大眾對于此類會影響學生健康的產品的質量監管不足的擔憂。
教育部還將協調有關部門提高校園塑膠跑道的施工要求，加大對跑道生產商的監管力度。
此外，教育部還強調，學校方面在跑道建設工程的招標過程中都必須將質量放在第一位，并補充說道，那些劣質“毒跑道”的相關負責人都將會予以嚴肅查處，絕不手軟。
