　　Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it.

　　規(guī)則1：人生不公，泰然處之。

　　Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The worldwill expect you to accomplishsomething before you feel good about yourself.

　　規(guī)則2：世界并不在意個(gè)人自尊。自我陶醉前，它冀望你能先有所成就。

　　Rule 3: You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be avice-president with a car phone, until you earn both.

　　規(guī)則3：高中一畢業(yè)就想一蹴而就，坐擁4萬年薪，這是不切實(shí)際的。你也不可能搖身一變成為副總，享有攜帶電話的轎車，這都得靠你自己打拼而來。

　　Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.

　　規(guī)則4：如果你覺得你的老師十分苛刻嚴(yán)厲，那么等著瞧你的老板吧。老板可沒有任期限制。

　　Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word forburger flipping - they called it opportunity.

　　規(guī)則5：君子并非定要遠(yuǎn)庖廚，做漢堡也不意味著折損尊嚴(yán)。你的祖父母對之另有解釋，他們將之稱為機(jī)遇。

　　Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn fromthem.

　　規(guī)則6：你的一敗涂地與父母無尤，不要喋喋不休的抱怨個(gè)不停，應(yīng)該汲取教訓(xùn)，從中獲益。

　　Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got thatway from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are.So, before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try delousingthe closet in your own room.

　　規(guī)則7：在你出生前，你父母的生活還未像現(xiàn)在這般勞心勞力，單調(diào)無趣。現(xiàn)在，他們得憂心你的賬單，為你洗衣打掃，聆聽你對自己的夸夸其談，洋洋得意，他們的生活變得枯燥乏味。在你雄心壯志的想要救萬民于水火之前，先整理干凈房間里的衣柜，一屋不掃何以掃天下。

　　Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers but life has not. In some schoolsthey have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as many times as you want to get the rightanswer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

　　規(guī)則8：學(xué)校不以成敗論英雄，生活卻并非如此。一些學(xué)校廢除不及格制，給予學(xué)生充足的時(shí)間找尋正確答案。這與現(xiàn)實(shí)生活截然不同。

　　Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers areinterested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

　　規(guī)則9：生活不分學(xué)期，沒有暑假，很少有老板有興趣幫你找尋自我。自己動手豐衣足食吧!

　　Rule 10: Television is NOT real life (nor are video games). In real life people actually have to leavethe coffee shop and go to jobs.

　　規(guī)則10：電視上演的與真實(shí)生活大相徑庭(電子游戲同樣如此)。實(shí)際上，現(xiàn)實(shí)生活中，人們不得不離開咖啡店，回去為生計(jì)奔波。

　　Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

　　規(guī)則11：善待令你討厭的人。很有可能，你最后會為其中之一工作。
