§60 見水底金影喻

(60) seeing the shadow of gold at the bottom of a pond

昔有癡人，往大池所，見水底影，有真金像，謂呼“有金”，即入水中撓泥求覓，疲極不得。還出復(fù)坐。

once upon a time, there was a man who went to a large pond where he thought he had seen the shadow of pure gold at the bottom of water. he gave a cry of joy and jumped into the water to feel about the mud and search for it. a few moments later, he began to feel very tired. he could not find any gold and he then got out of the pond.

須臾水清，又現(xiàn)金色，復(fù)更入里，撓泥更求，亦復(fù)不得。其父覓子，得來見子，而問子言：“汝何所作，疲困如是？”

but as soon as he was out of the water that became clear in no time, the golden shadow turned up again. then he dived once again to do more searching. still he found nothing. at this point, his father came looking for him. seeing the state he was in, his father asked, "what have you been doing to get so tired?"

子白父言：“水底有真金，我時投水，欲撓泥取，疲極不得。”

the son replied, "there is pure gold under water. i searched for it, but could find nothing."

父看水底真金之影，而知此金悉在樹上，所以知之，影現(xiàn)水底。其父言曰：“必飛鳥銜金，著于樹上。”即隨父語，上樹求得。

the father could also see the shadow of pure gold in the water. but he soon realized that it was in the trees. so he knew what was in the water was mere reflection. then he told his son that it was held by the bird's beak and brought it in the trees. following his father's instructions, the son immediately got the gold from the trees.

凡夫愚癡人，無智亦如是。于無我陰中，橫生有我想。如彼見金影，勤苦而求覓，徒勞無所得。

so are the ignorant in the world. they hold on to tile thought of ego in the shadow of non-ego, just like the stupid man looking desperately for the gold without success.

白話：

從前有個癡人到大池邊去，見水底有真金的影像，驚呼：「有金子。」就跳入水中翻泥覓求。弄得疲憊極了，卻未尋得金子，便出來，坐下。須臾之間，水清了，又現(xiàn)出金子的色澤來，他就再跳進(jìn)去翻泥覓求，還是不得。父親來找兒子了，見他這番模樣，便問：「你在做什么，這般疲困?」兒子道：「水底有真金，我時時跳下去，想翻泥覓取，疲累極了，卻不得。」父親看了水底真金的影子，就知道金在樹上。所以能夠知道，是因為影子顯現(xiàn)于水底。父親說道：「必定是飛鳥銜來放在樹上的。」兒子就按父親的話，上樹覓到了金子。

　　世上的愚癡人，也像這樣不具有智慧。
　　在無我的五陰身中，橫空產(chǎn)生有我的念頭來。
　　就如那位見了金影的人，勤勤苦苦地求覓，
　　卻徒勞而一無所得。

供您思考：

　　從前，有位年輕人和他的父親出外，發(fā)現(xiàn)遠(yuǎn)處有個大池塘。
　　「我想要去游水，爸爸要跟我去嗎？」
　　「你先去，我隨后就到。」

　　年輕的兒子，獨自來到了池邊，他見到一池澄澈的水，心情歡喜無比。突然間，他發(fā)現(xiàn)水底有樣?xùn)|西，是一條輝煌燦爛的金鏈，這使他極其興奮不已。

　　「我要下去把金鏈拿上來。」剛說完這話，他便迫不急待地?fù)渫ㄒ宦曁滤ァ５诔刂袞|摸西找，把水底的泥都翻遍了，清澈的水都弄混了，還是沒有找到那條金鏈，直到疲倦不堪了，才失望地爬上岸。在岸上他坐著看池里金鏈的地方，自言自語地說：
　　「奇怪呀！明明看到金鏈在池邊的水底，為什為就是找不到呢？」
　　他休息了一會，池水又慢慢地澄澈了，而金鏈又出現(xiàn)在水底。他低低地警告自己說：
　　「這次可看準(zhǔn)了金鏈的地方，下水時務(wù)必要對準(zhǔn)金鏈的地方下去。」

　　他這次比第一次更小心謹(jǐn)慎，在水里輕輕地游動，不讓池水混濁，他移身到看見金鏈的位置，小心地俯身撈取。可是就在他伸出手時，卻只摸到水底的泥土，試了又試，直到自己疲累不已，還是沒有摸到水底的金鏈。不禁自言自語地說：
　　「奇怪呀，為什么撈不到呢？」他無可奈何地只好上岸，坐在樹下休息，想不透怎么回事。父親這時對兒子不放心，走到池邊來。看到兒子坐在樹下，面對澄清的池水發(fā)呆，很疲倦的樣子。他走近兒子的身邊，關(guān)懷地問道：
　　「你怎么累成這個樣子？」
　　「爸爸你看！」兒子用手指著池邊水底說：「那不是一條金鏈嗎？」
　　「是啊！」父親在這一剎那，所見與兒子一樣，所以他如此回答。
　　「我為了撈取水底金鏈，弄得一身疲勞。」兒子懷疑地告訴爸爸說，「為什么當(dāng)我下去撈取的時候，偏偏又不見了，這不是很奇怪嗎？」

　　父親聽完了兒子的話，定神看了半天，發(fā)現(xiàn)水底之物乃是金鏈的影子，便喜悅地告訴兒子說：
　　「真正的金鏈?zhǔn)菕煸跇渖希镏皇菢渖辖疰湹牡褂把剑阍谒子衷跄軗频侥兀俊?br>　　「金鏈怎么會在樹上？不是明明白白在水底嗎？」兒子還是不明白地問。
　　「你若不信，現(xiàn)在你放棄看水底的金鏈，抬起頭來看看樹上吧！」
