點睛：
第一句是個簡單句。第二句是一個強調句型，主干是itis…suffering…that makes... So fascinating，強調的部分是humankind's long suffering at the mercy of flood and drought，其中心詞是suffering。在由that引導的從句中，謂語是makes.賓語是ideal, of forcing the waters to do our bidding作ideal的后置定語，so fascinating作賓語補足語。
capture the imagination of是一個固定搭配，意為“為…吸引”或“激發…想象力”。at the mercy of意為“任…處置;受…所支配”。

水手受到天氣的擺布。
