The Report on Childhood Obesity in China, released on Thursday, predicts that the prevalence rate of overweight and obese students aged 7 to 18 in the country will reach 28% in 2030 without intervention.

這份由北京大學公共衛生學院、中國營養學會等單位聯合編寫的報告稱，改革開放以來，我國兒童肥胖和超重率(the prevalence rate of obesity and overweight)明顯上升。1985-2014年，我國7歲以上學齡兒童(school-age children)超重率由2.1%增至12.2%，肥胖率則由0.5%增至7.3%，分別增長近5倍和14倍。
?北京大學公共衛生學院營養與食品衛生系教授馬冠生說，兒童肥胖在我國幾乎上升到了大規模流行的程度(rise to epidemic proportions)。雖然在肥胖的發生中，遺傳起重要作用(genetics play an important role)，但過去十年間，肥胖的快速發展主要與膳食結構的改變(the change of dietary structure)、身體活動的減少(a decline in physical activity)及不健康飲食行為(unhealthy dietary behaviors)等因素有關。馬冠生教授稱，兒童肥胖已經導致慢性疾病的發病期提前(childhood obesity has led to chronic diseases occurring at younger age)，超重和肥胖已成為兒童心血管疾病和2型糖尿病的主要風險因素(excess weight and obesity have become major risk factors for childhood cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes)。
