英語詩歌:I Died for Beauty

原文賞析Beauty
Dickinson’s poetry illustrates her religious-ethical and political-social ideas. As Calvinist with its predestination and its pessimism pressured her and colored her work, her basic tone was tragic.
1. express a strong desire for religious certainty, God’s help and the good life.
In “At last to pray is left”(至少還可以做祈禱), she makes an earnest plea to Jesus, reveals a puzzled poet in search of love and help: “Say, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, hast thou no arm for me.” The loss of faith and the religious uncertainty troubled her repeatedly.
2.The largest poetry concerns death and immortality. For Dickinson, death leads to immortality.
“Because I could not stop for death”(因為我沒有靜等死): She is in a carriage, first passes the School (childhood), then the Field (adult), then the Setting Sun (old age), but the horseback is toward Eternity.
Other poems dealing with death: “My life closed twice before its close”
I heard a fly buzz—when I died"(我死時聽到了蒼蠅的嗡嗡聲): She began to conceive of the process of dying.
3.Express a passionate and eternal love in a mournful tone.
“Wild nights—wild nights”
4.see nature both kind and cruel.
Extol the magnificence of sunrise in “I’ll tell you how sun rise”, express mixed feeling of joy and grief at the coming of spring in “These are the days when birds come back”).
In the meantime, reveal the cold indifference of nature. In “Apparently with no surprise”, Frost kills a happy flower without being punished while both the sun and God look on.
5.On the ethical level, emphasize free-will and human responsibility.
In “To fight aloud” and “A triumph may be”, she took the cause and cure as mainly within the individual. The individual’s highest duty is to resist anything that will do harm to man’s self-respect and spiritual heritage.
6.Show concern for the social politics.
Show sympathy for the poor and the weak in “The beggar lad dies early”(討飯的小伙子夭逝了"If I can stop one heart from breaking”.
attack over emphasis on materialism and commercialism, give warm response to the expansion of America.
7.holds that beauty, truth and goodness are one.
In “I died for beauty”(我為美而死), discusses beauty and truth, concludes that the two are one.
本文標題: 英語詩歌:I Died for Beauty - 英語短文_英語美文_英文美文I died for Beauty -- but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When One who died for Truth, was lain
In an adjoining room --
He questioned softly Why I failed?
"For Beauty", I replied --
"And I -- for Truth -- Themself are One --
We Brethren, are", He said --
And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night --
We talked between the Rooms --
Until the Moss had reached our lips --
And covered up -- our names --
