Reading good books is one of the greatest pleasures in life. From good books, we can derive satisfaction, companionship and instruction. A good book can increase our happiness when we are cheerful, and lesson our trouble when we are sad. Whatever purpose our reading may be, our contact with good books should never fail to give us enjoyment.
With a good book in our hands we never feel lonely. The people we meet in books may delight us as our companions and friends. Our human friends may sometimes bore us, but good books are always ready to give us friendship and encouragement.
From good books we can heartily enjoy the beauties of nature, the triumphs of science and technology, and the treasures of music and art.
From good books, moreover, we can still draw much instruction which few companions can offer. Reading good books can help to advance our knowledge and improve our mind so as to equip ourselves to perform our work more efficiently.
