與您相識 深感壓抑
剛來澳洲時，學習英文，經常因為混淆的詞或概念鬧大笑話，下面是親身經歷的幾例：
一、chicken與kitchen友人在某餐館做廚房下手，被洋朋友問及其工作時，答曰：“chicken hand”（雞手），弄得洋朋友莫名其妙，比劃了半天才明白是“kitchen hand”。'
二、pressure和pleasure語言學校某教師即將離任，我先生緊緊握著他的手，告別兼致謝：“It's a great pressure to have met you.”他想表達的是：“與您相識，深感榮幸?！币蛔种顓s變成了：“與您相識，深感壓抑”。
三、potato還是tomato先生為顧客做漢堡包，末了問道：“Would you like some potato sauce？”（您要些土豆醬嗎？）顧客支吾了半天才說：“不要，謝謝。我倒是想要些番茄醬?！?/p>
四、potty和kettle鄰居來家小坐，我先問她要茶還是咖啡，然后準備去燒水。恍惚記得potty是一種盛水的容器，就對她說：“I just get the potty ready for you.”（我的意思是去給她準備水壺）誰知她竟愣在那里了。一會兒，電水壺叫起來，她才恍然大悟，一臉釋然：“Do you mean kettle？”（你說的是水壺??？）原來potty是尿盆。
