潘基文英語演講：呼吁結束性取向歧視(雙語)
聯合國人權理事會第19屆會議上召開了討論會，關注同性戀、雙性戀和變性者所遭受的暴力與歧視問題。聯合國秘書長潘基文向會議強調，因性取向或性別認同而對一個人進行的攻擊是對聯合國普世價值觀的攻擊。
Some say that sexual orientation and gender identity is a sensitive subject. I understand. Like many of my generation, I did not grow up talking about these issues. But I learned to speak out because lives are at stake and because it is our duty, under the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to protect the rights of everyone, everywhere.
有些人說，性取向和性別認同是一個敏感的話題。我明白...就像許多我這代人一樣，我沒有在成長過程中談論過這些問題。但我學會了發聲，因為生命危在旦夕，因為根據《聯合國憲章》，這是我們的職責，因為《世界人權宣言》保護每個地方每個人的權利。
We see a pattern of violence and discrimination directed at people just because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. There is widespread bias at jobs, schools and hospitals. And appalling violent attacks, including sexual assault. People have been imprisoned, tortured, even killed. This is a monumental tragedy for those affected and a stain on our collective conscience. It is also a violation of international law.
我們注意到針對一些人的暴力和歧視，只是因為他們是同性戀、雙性戀或變性者。在工作中、學校和醫院普遍存在著偏見。令人震驚的暴力襲擊事件，包括性侵犯時常發生，有些人因此被監禁、拷打、甚至被殺害，這是對那些受影響人們的慘痛悲劇，也是我們集體良知上的一個污點，它也違反了國際法。
To those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, let me say: You are not alone. Your struggle for an end to violence and discrimination is a shared struggle. Any attack on you is an attack on the universal values the United Nations and I have sworn to defend and uphold. Today, I stand with you. And I call upon all countries and people to stand with you, too. A historic shift is under way. More States see the gravity of the problem. We must tackle the violence, decriminalize consensual same-sex relationships, ban discrimination, and educate the public. The time has come.
我要對這些同性戀、雙性戀或變性者說：你們并不孤單。你們爭取結束暴力與歧視的斗爭，是我們共同的斗爭，對你們的攻擊就是對我宣誓捍衛的聯合國普世價值觀的攻擊。今天，我與你們站在一起，我呼吁所有國家和人民也與你們站在一起。一個歷史性的轉變正在進行中，更多的國家看到了問題的嚴重性，我們必須反對暴力，將雙方同意的同性關系合法化，禁止歧視，教育公眾。這個時機已經到來。
