We
hear a great deal about innovation these days, and for good reason.
Innovation lies at the heart of our social and economic wellbeing.

最近，創(chuàng)新一詞常在我們的耳畔響起，這不無(wú)道理。創(chuàng)新是我們社會(huì)和經(jīng)濟(jì)福祉的核心。

Innovation
– and the technological progress it represents – makes a significant
contribution to economic growth and creates opportunities for new and
better jobs.

創(chuàng)新及其所代表的技術(shù)進(jìn)步，為經(jīng)濟(jì)增長(zhǎng)做出了重大貢獻(xiàn)，并且創(chuàng)造了更新和更好的就業(yè)崗位。

We
often do not take enough time to think about the many ways in which
innovation improves the quality of our lives. One only has to compare
the way we live today with the way we lived 100 years ago. Over the past
century, we have seen an extraordinary transformation in the quality of
our material lives, thanks to the introduction of countless new and
improved technologies and products. And with extraordinary new
technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, 3D
printing, neuromorphic computer chips, nanotechnology, robotics, CRISPR
gene-editing and more coming on stream, the prospects for further
progress are very bright.

我們經(jīng)常無(wú)暇思考多年來(lái)創(chuàng)新如何改善了我們的生活品質(zhì)。只要把今天的生活與百年前相比，便可知道。過(guò)去一百年間，由于推出了經(jīng)過(guò)改進(jìn)的無(wú)數(shù)新技術(shù)和新產(chǎn)品，我們的物質(zhì)生活品質(zhì)也發(fā)生了非凡的轉(zhuǎn)變。隨著虛擬現(xiàn)實(shí)、人工智能、3D打印、神經(jīng)元計(jì)算機(jī)芯片、納米技術(shù)、機(jī)器人技術(shù)、CRISPR基因編輯等超凡的新技術(shù)以及未來(lái)更多技術(shù)的出現(xiàn)，實(shí)現(xiàn)進(jìn)一步發(fā)展的前景一片光明。

What, you may ask, does intellectual property have to do with all of this?

您可能會(huì)問(wèn)，知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)與所有這些有什么關(guān)系？

Intellectual
property is a crucial part of a successful innovation system. It
provides a return for those who take the risk to introduce the “new” –
in terms of products and services – into the economy. It provides a
framework for the rather difficult and challenging journey that any idea
has to undertake before becoming a commercially available product or
service.

知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)是成功創(chuàng)新體系的關(guān)鍵組成部分。它為冒險(xiǎn)將“新”產(chǎn)品和服務(wù)推入經(jīng)濟(jì)的人提供回報(bào)。它為任何創(chuàng)意在成為可商業(yè)開(kāi)發(fā)的產(chǎn)品或服務(wù)前必須歷經(jīng)的艱難和挑戰(zhàn)之旅提供了框架。

With
this year’s World Intellectual Property Day campaign, we are
celebrating innovation and how it improves our lives.  We are also
celebrating all the risk-takers, all those who have dared to bring about
positive change through innovation.

在今年的世界知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)日活動(dòng)中，我們將為創(chuàng)新及其為我們生活帶來(lái)的改善喝彩。我們也將為所有勇于冒險(xiǎn)的人喝彩，是他們敢于通過(guò)創(chuàng)新帶來(lái)積極變化。

This
year’s campaign is an opportunity for us all to think about what it
actually takes to invent something and the challenges associated with
that process. It is also a chance for us to consider how we can make
innovation really work for the benefit of the whole of society.

今年的活動(dòng)是一個(gè)契機(jī)，讓我們所有人思考發(fā)明實(shí)際所需的成本以及與此過(guò)程相關(guān)的挑戰(zhàn)。它也提供了契機(jī)，讓我們思考如何使創(chuàng)新發(fā)揮作用，真正造福于全社會(huì)。
