on the morning of 28 april, a minor official of the propaganda ministry married hitler and braun as a crowning award for braun's loyalty to the end. she was 33 and he 56.
the next day hitler held his final staff conference, being told that the russians now were only a few blocks away. he had lunch as usual at 2 pm. he supervised the poisoning of his beloved dog and her puppies, and shortly after 3 pm he and braun bade farewell to the staff, and retired to their private room. they bit into cyanide capsules. as he did so, hitler also shot himself in the head.
