the knights of old were supposed to have courage, honour and a readiness to help the weak and protect women, but in actual fact they could be as callous as they were cowardly. in 1379, when a fleet of english knights under sir john arundel was on its way to brittany, france, it was overtaken by a storm. seeing that the jettisoning of other things failed to relieve the vessels, the knights threw into the sea sixty women, many of whom had been forced to embark.
古代武士據說須勇而好義，幫助弱者，保護女性，但事實上他們可能既冷酷又怯懦。一三七九年，有英格蘭艦隊滿載武士，由約翰．阿倫德爾爵士率領，出發赴法國不塔尼，途中遇上風暴。那些武士為了減輕戰船負荷，把很多東西拋進海，但見情況仍然危險，就把六十個女人也投入怒濤。這些女人不少本是脅迫上船的。
