Sleeping Beauty
Once there was a King and a Queen who wished for nothing more but to have a child. And one day at last the Queen had a daughter. The King was so pleased that he gave a big christening party. He invited friends, relatives, acquaintances and also the Good Fairies who lived within his land. There were thirteen of them. But because they were to eat from golden plates and the King only had twelve, one Fairy could not be invited. The party was a great event and when it came to an end the Good Fairies presented the baby with their gifts. Just as the eleventh Fairy had bestowed her wish upon the Princess, the thirteenth came into the room. She was very angry at not being asked to the party. She went to the baby's crib and cried, “The Princess shall prick her finger with a spindle in her fifteenth year, and she shall fall dead!” The King and Queen and all the guests were startled. But now the twelfth Good Fairy came forward and said, “She shall not fall dead, but only into a sleep which will last a hundred years!”
