Poor Little Nobody
On a large lake， overhung with trees， lived a little brown duck. He was very friendly， but few people took any notice of him.
The poor little duck felt very sad - but the swans would always say： “The visitors all come to see us. You are only an ordinary duck - a nobody！”
One day two men in uniform arrived in a blue van. They came to the edge of the lake， and one of them said： “I think the little brown one over there would be just right， don't you？” After a great deal of trouble the little brown one over there would be just right， don't you？“ After a great deal of trouble the little brown duck was caught.
After a while the van stopped outside a very large house indeed. They drove in through some wide gates， then the little duck was carried to a small lake in a most beautiful garden. The other ducks there made him welcome.
Next morning， as the ducks were swimming about in the bright sunshine， a lady in a pretty blue dress， and two small children， came down to the lake.
“Oh， look！” said one little boy. “There is the new duck. I like him best of all.”
“Yes，” said the lady， “isn't he nice - throw him a few crumbs， dears.”
“Come along， now children，” said the lady - and as they were leaving she turned to a gardener and said， “Good morning.” He bowed low and said， “Good morning， Your Majesty.”
The little duck nearly stopped swimming！ Then he cried out： “Why， I belong to the Queen！ I am a Royal duck now， and I shall never be a nobody again！”
