Advancing on the road, Faldan soon came across a line of trees along the roadside.He felt a little tired from all the walking. So he approached ?a tree to rest under  his shadow. Sitting there,he looked up to the tree's foliage and he noticed a small thing moving among the leaves and the branches. He got up to see more clearly and realized that what was moving was a small caterpillar. It was busy eating a leaf.

沿著大路往前，福達(dá)很快就看見路邊有一排樹林。走了這么久，他有點(diǎn)累，于是就到一棵樹下休息。坐在那兒，福達(dá)抬頭看了看樹上的枝葉，發(fā)現(xiàn)有一個(gè)小東西在樹葉和枝干間爬動。他站起身，想看得清楚些，原來是條毛毛蟲在動。它正忙著吃樹葉呢。
 

"Hello," he dared to say, "I am in the middle ofajourney to find answers. So far I have found three, but I think I still need to find more. Can you tell me something about love?"

“你好，我正在旅途中，我是來尋找答案的。我現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)找了3個(gè)，但是我想我還需要更多。你能告訴我什么是愛嗎？”他大膽地問道。

"I can tell you something." Its voice was little, and seemed to shiver. "Look at the other branches in this tree. I'm not alone: we are so many!" Faldan could see that, in fact, the trees were full of small, hungry caterpillars. "We all walk upon the branches, and we all feed on the tree. We all hurt it, but still it stays there. It endures, with leaves ever new, always with more food for us to eat. Now look at those other branches there, a little higher: some of us have eaten enough and are resting now. They sleep, they sleep inside a house that they themselves have woven. I will also soon go there, I will climb one of those branches and will do the same, I will weave a home to sleep. You know what will happen then, you know, after a time of being there by myself, I will be turned into a butterfly. And all thanks to this tree that I hurt now, but that I never destroy. Now, as you can see, I am very slow to move. But one day I will be able to fly far away. Yes, beautiful wings will grow on my ugly body, and all thanks to this tree, which feeds me. In fact I will always carry its essence with me, because what it has given me will be a part of myself, I will carry it on my wings. And I know that it will be glad when it sees me fly around it, and then far, far away from here." The caterpillar stopped.

"我能告訴你一些事情。”毛毛蟲聲音很小，好像在顫抖。“看看樹上的其他枝干。我可不是孤單一人：我有好多伙伴！”福達(dá)果真看到樹上爬滿了瘦小而饑餓的毛毛蟲。“我們在樹上爬行，以樹為生，我們都傷害它，但是它仍然屹立在那里。它忍受著，樹葉不斷地新生．總是讓我們有更多的東西可以吃。現(xiàn)在看看那邊稍高一點(diǎn)的樹枝，我的幾個(gè)伙伴已經(jīng)吃飽，正在休息。他們在睡覺，就睡在自己親手編織的房子里。我也很快就要過去，我將爬上其中的一條枝椏，也要像它們一樣造一座房子休息。然后你知道將會怎樣嗎？我獨(dú)自一人在那住上一段時(shí)間后就會變成蝴蝶。這些都要感謝我現(xiàn)在使之受傷，但卻永遠(yuǎn)也不會摧毀的大樹。你看我現(xiàn)在走起來很慢，但是有一天我將飛向遙遠(yuǎn)的地方。是的，在我丑陋的身體上會長出美麗的雙翅，而這些都要感謝喂養(yǎng)哺育我的大樹。其實(shí)我會永遠(yuǎn)將它的精髓帶在身上，因?yàn)樗o予我的一切會成為我身體的一部分，我會用雙翅托起它。而且我知道，看見我在它身邊飛舞，然后離開這兒飛向遠(yuǎn)方，它會很開心。”然后毛毛蟲停下來，不說話了。

Faldan looked at the tree and the leaves. Some butterflies fluttered around him. His joumeyhad just started. He had found unexpected answers to his question, as unexpected as the characters that he had heard them from. But still the puzzle remained incomplete. He decided to go on and continued with his quest. He took the road which led to a nearby village.

福達(dá)看了看大樹和滿樹的葉子，幾只蝴蝶正在他身邊飛舞，他的旅途才剛剛開始。對于自己的問題，他已聽到了好多意想不到的回答。但是謎底尚未揭開，他決定繼續(xù)前進(jìn)，繼找答案。他走上了一條通往附近村莊的大路。

Walking through the streets he soon came to the marketplace, which was full of people that busily came and went, shouting and laughing.

穿過幾條街道，他很快就來到了一個(gè)集市。集市上人山人海，來來往往的人們匆匆忙忙，到處是叫賣聲和說笑聲。
