My Creed 我的信念

I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon – if I can.
我不選擇做一個(gè)平凡的人，與別人不同是我的權(quán)力 – 如果我可以的話。

I seek opportunity – not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.
我尋找機(jī)會(huì) – 不是安全，我不希望成為被保護(hù)的公民，受國(guó)家照顧而變得謙卑或遲鈍。

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.
我想冒算計(jì)過的險(xiǎn)；去夢(mèng)想去創(chuàng)造，去失敗或成功。

I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.
我拒絕以成功的誘因換取救濟(jì)金。我喜歡挑戰(zhàn)，勝過活著的保證；喜歡實(shí)現(xiàn)目標(biāo)帶來的興奮，勝過烏托邦里了無(wú)新意的平靜。

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.
我不會(huì)拿自由交換別人的慈善，或拿尊嚴(yán)交換別人的施舍。我絕不會(huì)因任何大人向后退縮，或因任何威脅而彎腰屈膝。

迪安?阿爾芬奇 (1897-1989) 是美國(guó)政治人物，參與過民主黨、共和黨、勞工黨及紐約民主黨的政治活動(dòng)，曾擔(dān)任過紐約副檢察總長(zhǎng)，也參加過包括紐約市長(zhǎng)、眾議員在內(nèi)等多次選舉，但都沒成功獲選。他是出生于土耳其的希臘后裔，積極投入猶太人的建國(guó)運(yùn)動(dòng)。
