65.一報(bào)還一報(bào)

An acquaintance of mine stopped at a local tavern after work and spent the evening there. When’ he arrived home around ten o'clock, his wife was sitting at the kitchen table，waiting. Instead of questioning or scolding him，however , she simply asked pleasantly if he wanted dinner. He was not interested in eating，and went off to bed.

我的一個(gè)熟人在一次下班后，把車停在了一個(gè)小飯館前，在那兒他消磨可一個(gè)晚上。大約十點(diǎn)鐘他才回到家。他的妻子坐在廚房的桌旁等他。她沒有追問他什么，也沒有責(zé)怪他，只是和藹地問他想不想吃點(diǎn)什么。他已經(jīng)對(duì)晚餐不感興趣，于是，就上床睡覺了。

At 3:30 a. m.，the alarm went off. He scrambled out of bed and turned on the light. When he saw the time, he roared at his wife，demanding an explanation.

大約在凌晨三點(diǎn)半的時(shí)候，鬧鐘突然響了。他趕緊掀開了被子，打開了燈。當(dāng)他看清了時(shí)問時(shí)，他沖妻子大聲地吼叫為什么。

"Well,"she replied placidly, "if it took you four-hours to get home from work，I figured it would take you four hours to get back to work，and I didn't want you to be late. "

妻子和氣地說:“我想，假如你下班回家路止花了四個(gè)小時(shí)的話，你上班當(dāng)然也需要花四個(gè)小時(shí)趕路了。我只是不想讓你遲到。”
