My thoughts on Books
Books may be the source of good or evil. What we all expect from them， of course， is benefit. In books there are many useful things for us， but we must distinguish between the good and the bad. Good books are not only our teachers but also our friends. This is illustrated by the lines：“My never-failing friends are they， with whom I converse day by day.”It must be noticed， however， that some books are written with no other purpose except to make money. They contain matters of no importance and may even spoil the character of their readers. Such books must be avoided absolutely.
Without books， histories cannot be written and knowledge cannot be spread and handled down through the generations. Every country has its own sacred books. In European countries， the Bible， which contains the teaching of Jesus Christ， prevails， while in China， the“Four Books”， conveying the thoughts and principles of Confucius and Menaces， are widely read. Each country finds her books suitable and useful to her people.

作者將書分為好書和壞書，提醒人們要警惕壞書對character的腐蝕，著重敘述了書的積極作用。所有引用的對書的評價貼切到位。至于所說的“四書”在中國popularly read，卻也不盡然。讀壞書，有如交損友
