on board jack rackham's pirate ship, mary fell in love with a young sailor who was about to fight a duel with an experienced pirate. fearing for her lover's life, mary started a quarrel with the burly man, and challenged him to a duel herself, demanding immediate satisfaction.
the quartermaster promptly rowed the two combatants ashore. the other pirate was the stronger of the two, but mary was brilliantly cunning. when the pirate stumbled during a thrust, she ripped her shirt open, exposing her breasts to the man's gaze, and in the moment of his surprise and hesitation, she swung her cutlass and killed him instantly.
