frederick the great, king of prussia (1740-86), was as willing as the next man to play pranks. while still a cadet, he and some young officers once took revenge on a regimental chaplain who had criticised them. they first smashed the windows of his bedroom and then threw into the room a hive full of angry bees. the chaplain and his pregnant wife were driven from their bed, across the courtyard and eventually to the side of a dunghill.
