a courageous general, pyrrhus was enlisted by the greeks in southern itay to counter the increasingly powerful romans. in 279 bc, his invading forces defeated the romans at the battle of asculum. however, the engagement was costly: he lost many men, and all of his baggage. when one of his soldiers congratulated him on his victory, pyrrhus famously replied: "another such victory and we are ruined."
皮拉斯是位勇武的將領，義大利南部希臘人因此請他對抗方興未艾的羅馬。公元前二七九年，在奧斯庫盧姆之役中，帥師進侵的皮拉斯擊潰了羅馬軍隊，但那是慘勝：希臘將士傷亡枕藉，輜重盡失。皮拉斯一名手下賀他捷歌得奏，他的回答膾炙人口：「再有一次這樣的勝利，我們就完了。」
