Looking for the Seal
When Judie and her mother returned from the grocery store, she pulled out a box of animal crackers. Then she spread the animal-shaped crackers all over the kitchen counter.
"What are you doing？" her mom asked. "The box says you can't eat them if the seal is broken," Judie explained. "I'm looking for the seal."
和媽媽從食品雜貨店回到家里后,Judie 扯出來一盒動物餅干,把這些動物餅干全鋪在廚房的臺子上。
她媽媽問到:“你在做什么啊？”Judie解釋道:“盒子上寫著如果海豹餅干裂了,這盒餅干就不能吃了。我在找海豹啊！”
注:
seal 作名詞有“封口”的意思,也有“海豹”的意思。 這里其實是說,如果封口開了餅干就不能吃了。
The Baby-Sitter
A single mother needed to go out one day. She found a young man named John to baby-sit her kids. At bedtime he sent the kids upstairs to bed. Then he went down to watch football.
One child kept creeping down the stairs, but the young man kept sending him back to bed.
At 9 p.m. the doorbell rang, it was the next-door neighbor, Mrs. Brown. She asked whether her son was there. John replied, "No."
Just then a little head appeared over the stairs and shouted, "I'm here, Mom. But he won't let me go home！"
一個單身媽媽有天要外出辦事。她就找了一個叫John的年輕人照看她的小孩。晚上孩子們睡覺的時候到了,John就把孩子送到樓上的臥室。然后他就下樓去看球賽了。
但有一個小孩不肯好好睡覺,一次又一次地從樓上爬下來,John只好一次又次地把他送回床上。
晚上9點的時候門鈴響了,是鄰居Mrs. Brown來問她的兒子是不是在這兒。John說不在。
就在這個時候,一個小腦袋從樓梯上探出來。他喊道:“媽媽,我在這兒。這個人不讓我回家！”
