什么是summary

A summary of something is a short account of it, which gives the main points but not the details.

summary的主要特點
我們參考Washington State University關(guān)于寫summary的介紹(詳情點擊左下角“閱讀原文”)，再加上Carlyn老師個人的理解整理，一般來說，summary有以下幾個特征：
1. A summary begins with a clear identification of the type of work, title, author, and main point in the present tense.
Summary開頭用一般現(xiàn)在時明確介紹原文標(biāo)題、作者、主要觀點等信息。例如，我們這篇課文的summary可以這樣開頭：
In the text "Rethinking Skyscrapers", the author, Jerkily Watson, writes about various issues related to the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings and aspects of the construction of skyscrapers.
當(dāng)然，如果所給材料沒有作者信息，則開門見山地介紹大意即可。
2. A summary should contain all the major points of the original text.
必須包含原文的所有主要要點。這就要求對原文內(nèi)容必須充分理解，能夠分清主次信息，并進行概括。
3. A summary must contain only the ideas of the original text.
只能包含原文的觀點。換句話說，summary中的觀點必須忠實原文，不能寫自己的主觀看法。
4. A summary is written in your own words. It contains few or no quotes.
用自己的話來表達。這就需要paraphrase或者explain原文的要點，如果有必要引用原文的某些關(guān)鍵詞，記得用引號標(biāo)出，否則會被視為抄襲。
5. Write using "summarizing language." Periodically remind your reader that this is a summary by using phrases such as the article claims, the author suggests, etc.
在summary中使用“the article claims", "the author suggests"等字眼，能夠不時地提醒讀者這是一篇summary，不是原文。
6. A summary should follow the order of the original text.
要遵從原文的結(jié)構(gòu)順序，不能隨意調(diào)整信息的先后次序。
