Chicken Little

讀懂笑話(huà)必先掌握的相關(guān)背景知識(shí)：
Chicken Little憂(yōu)天小雞，原為十九世紀(jì)中期西方童話(huà)故事《Henny-Penny》中的一個(gè)角色。它有一天在樹(shù)林里散步，一顆椽子掉在它頭上，它以為天要塌下來(lái)了，就急急忙忙跑去告訴它的雞、鴨、鵝等朋友，大家商量后決定立刻報(bào)告林中之王，半途遇上一只愿意帶路的狐貍，結(jié)果被帶進(jìn)狐貍洞，統(tǒng)統(tǒng)都給狐貍吃了。 后在英語(yǔ)中，Chicken Little就用來(lái)比喻膽小者，指因不必要的憂(yōu)慮和擔(dān)心而寢食不安的人或?qū)κ虑楣烙?jì)過(guò)于悲觀的人。
笑話(huà)如下：
One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken Little to her class. She came to the part of the story where Chicken Little tried to warn the farmer. She read, ".... and so Chicken Little went up to the farmer and said, "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!"
The teacher paused then asked the class, "And what do you think that farmer said?"
One little girl raised her hand and said, "I think he said: 'Holy ****! A talking chicken!'"
The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.
額外更多：英國(guó)人對(duì)雞似乎沒(méi)有什么好感，chicken一字被用于比喻時(shí),多屬貶意。如：指嘴上沒(méi)有毛的年輕人，膽小如鼠的人都為chicken.另外chicken與其它詞組成的詞組也是含貶義者居多.如chicken head 笨蛋,蠢人；chicken hearted 和 chicken livered 都為“膽怯的”，“軟弱的”之意。chicken feed 為數(shù)甚微的款項(xiàng)，就像“雞食”一樣少。to chicken out 臨陣逃脫 等等，非常常見(jiàn)。
