最近我有一次機會登上一艘豪華游輪觀光。一次, 我在酒吧臺拿了兩杯雞尾酒回房間享受，途中遇到一位女士，她看看我后笑著說：“You have matches？”我一愣，回答說：“很抱歉，我十五年前就戒煙了，所以沒有火柴。”她立刻會意到我誤解了她的意思，好像是有點抱歉的說：“It’s a joke.” 然后，我們就相互尷尬的笑了笑，走開了。事后和朋友在吃晚飯的時候聊天，我趁機向一個美國朋友請教白天的那句話，他解釋說：“因為她看你兩手都占著，就故意開玩笑跟你要火柴，這是個非常普通的笑話，非但沒有惡意，反而是想問你需不需要幫忙。”(摘自《世界日報》)
