Two acquaintances were in the barber shop getting shaves at the same time. After the barbers had finished, each man was asked if he would like some after-shave applied to his skin.
兩個熟識的朋友剛好同時在理發店內刮胡子。理發師刮完他們的胡子后，兩人都被問到要不要在臉上抹上一些刮胡子后所使用的香水。
“No, no,” answered the first man. “My wife will think I’ve been in a whorehouse.”
“不，不，”第一個先生說。“我太太會以為我去過妓院。”
“Go ahead,” said the other. “My wife has never been in a whorehouse!”
“我沒關系，”另一個先生說道“。我太太從沒在妓院待過！”
英語知識點解說：
1.acquaintance n. 相識的人
acquaint vt. 使明白（與 with 并用 ）；（使）熟識（ 某人 ）
a nodding acquaintance 點頭之交
make sb's acquaintance 熟識某人
=get acquainted with sb
例：Let me acquaint you with the facts in this case before you deliver a speech.

例：Knowing that he was almost hit by the car, Billy said, "What a close shave!"

4.apply vt. & vi. 敷；涂；專注于
apply A to B 將 A 涂抹到B
apply oneself to N/V-ing 致力于……
例：In an unfortunate error, Mr. Smith applied super glue instead of ointment to his hemorrhoids.
（由于人為不幸的錯誤，史密斯先生把速干膠，而不是藥膏擦在痔瘡上。）
I've decided to apply myself to computer programming over the next five years.

5.skin n. 皮膚
skin a. 皮包骨的；瘦的
例：Beauty is only skin-deep.
