When the door-to-door salesman rang the doorbell of the suburban home, he was taken aback when a 10-year-old boy opened the door smoking a big cigar.
當(dāng)挨家挨戶兜售東西的推銷員按了一幢郊區(qū)房子的門鈴后，他嚇了一跳，開門的竟是一位嘴里叼著一根大雪茄的十歲男孩。
The salesman could only stammer out, “Er, is your mother at home?”
推銷員結(jié)結(jié)巴巴地問道“，哦，你媽媽在家嗎？”
Answered the boy, “What do you think?”
小男孩回答說“，你認(rèn)為呢？”
英語知識(shí)點(diǎn)解說：
1.precocious a. 早熟的；過早的
2.suburb n. 郊區(qū)；郊外（通常采用復(fù)數(shù)形）
suburban a. 郊區(qū)的；市郊的
in the suburbs of ... 在 市郊
=on the outskirts of...
