“Did you know I could tell time by the piano?” asked one friend of another .
“你相信我可以由鋼琴知道現(xiàn)在幾點鐘嗎？”一位老兄向他的朋友問道。
“You’re kidding,” replied his companion dubiously.
“別開玩笑了！”他的朋友懷疑地回答。
“I’ll show you,” said the first man as sat down at the piano and started to hammer out a martial tune.
“那我試給你看，”說著那位老兄就坐在鋼琴前開始彈起一首進行曲。
Within seconds came a pounding on the wall, and an angry voice shouting, “Hey, you son of a bitch, don’t you realize it’s three o’clock in the morning?”
幾秒鐘后墻壁傳來捶打聲，一個憤怒的聲音叫道“：嘿！你他媽的，你知不知道現(xiàn)在是凌晨三點鐘？”
英語知識點解說：
1.remarkable a. 驚人的；了不起的
例：Once upon a time, Taiwan was remarkable for its beauty.
（很久以前，臺灣美麗的風景曾聞名于世。）
2.talent n. 才干，天分
talented a. 有才能的
be talented in... 在…… 有才華
例：If your child is talented in tennis, you should certainly encourage him.
（如果你的小孩有網(wǎng)球的天分，你一定要鼓勵他。）
3.companion n. 伙伴（可數(shù)名詞）
company n. 陪伴；同伴（不可數(shù)名詞，作集合名詞用 ）；公 ，商號（可數(shù)名詞）
keep sb company 陪伴某人
=accompany sb
例：One is known by the company one keeps.
（觀其友而知其人。 ——諺語）
I wonder if you can keep me company to the station.
（不知道您可否陪我到車站去。）
4.dubiously ad. 懷疑地
5.hammer out... 擬定（計劃）；絞盡腦汁來解決（問題）
*hammer 出自名詞，原指“榔頭”。本文指“用力彈奏”。
例：In a long meeting, the two factions hammered out a joint policy.
（經過冗長的會議后，兩派人士終于擬定出一個聯(lián)合方案。）
6.martial a. 好戰(zhàn)的；尚武的
martial law 戒嚴法
martial tune 進行曲
例：Don't worry; Dr. Douglas is martial in appearance but gentle in manner.
（別擔心，道格拉斯醫(yī)生雖然看起來像個武夫，舉止卻很斯文。）
7.pound vt. 重擊
