Out in the forest preserve, a man strolled up to the fisherman and asked whether he’d had any luck.
在森林保護區內，有個人走向一位正在釣魚的老兄并問他有沒有收獲。
“No, nothing today, but you should have seen me yesterday. I caught fourteen bass in the morning and another twelve in the afternoon.”
“今天什么也沒有，不過你應該昨天來見我才是。昨天早上我釣了十四尾鱸魚，下午釣了十二尾呢！”
“Well, that’s very interesting. Do you know who I am?”
“哦，那相當不錯嘛，你知道我是誰嗎？”
“No.”
“不知道。”
“I happen to be the game warden.”
“我恰巧就是監視狩獵的管理員。”
“Oh. And do you know who I am? I’m the biggest liar you ever laid eyes on.”

英語知識點解說：
1.preserve vt. 保護 ；保存 & n. 保護區
preserved vegetable 泡菜；腌菜
preserved egg 皮蛋，咸蛋

conserve vt. 節約使用

=make a reservation for a room
conserve energy 節約能源

2.stroll n. & vi. 散步（= walk）

例：Melvin had the bad luck to run into his boss on his day off.
（梅爾賓運氣真壞，在他休假時竟然遇到他的老板。）
4.bass n. 鱸魚
此詞的單復數同形，其他單復數同 形的名詞還有 fish, salmon（鮭魚），deer （鹿），reindeer（訓鹿），sheep（綿羊），aircraft（飛行器 ）等等 ，但 goat（山羊）及 airplane（飛機）的復數則分別為 goats 和 airplanes.
5.game n. 游戲（可數名詞）；獵物（集合名詞，不可數）
例：To Larry, all women are fair game.
（對賴利而言，所有女人都是美麗的獵物。）
6.warden n. 監視員
7.lay eyes on... 發現／看見…
例：I've never before laid eyes on such a beauty.
（我以前從沒見過這么美麗的女人。）
