with the outbreak of war against germany in 1914 british patriotism took many unusual forms. anything of german origin immediately became suspect. the following excerpt is from the 18 august 1914 issue of the daily mirror : " in a side street off the strand yesterday i met a little dachshund - the dachshund might be called the national dog of germany - walking cheerfully along well-bedecked in red, white and blue ribbons. and round his neck he wore this label, 'i am a naturalised british subject.' and he seemed mighty proud of the fact, too."
一 九 一 四 年 對 德 戰(zhàn) 爭 爆 發(fā) ， 英 國 人 表 達 愛 國 熱 忱 的 方 式 五 花 八 門 。 任 何 源 自 德 國 的 東 西 ， 都 蒙 上 嫌 疑 。 以 下 文 字 錄 自 一 九 一 四 年 八 月 十 八 日 《 每 日 鏡 報 》 ： 「 昨 天 ， 我 在 河 濱 大 道 橫 街 碰 到 一 只 很 小 的 達 克 斯 臘 腸 狗 ： 這 種 狗 大 概 可 稱 為 德 國 國 犬 。 那 小 狗 身 上 盛 飾 紅 、 白 、 藍 緞 帶 ， 快 快 活 活 在 街 上 走 ， 脖 子 上 戴 一 個 圈 ， 上 書 ： 『 我 入 了 英 籍 。 』 牠 看 來 還 因 此 自 豪 得 很 。 」
