during the "phoney war" in 1940, a german bomber crashed in clacton-on-sea, england, killing its crew of four germans. the war was so new that anti-german sentiments were not strong. the german dead were borne to the local cemetry with full military honours supplied by the raf,and women sobbed for them. their coffins were covered with wreaths, some of which bore the words:"with heartfelt sympathy from a mother."
一九四○年「假戰」期間，一架德國轟炸機在英國濱海克拉克頓墜毀，四名機員全部喪生。那時開戰未久，反德情緒不強，那些德軍遺體被送到當地墳場，由英國皇家空軍負責，依足軍禮下葬，婦女還為他們哭泣。他們的棺材上堆滿花圈，其中有些寫：「一名母親由衷哀悼。」
