古德明《征服英語》之英語軍事故事，古德明，香港英語教育作家，他開了一個《征服英語專欄》，在專欄中專門用英語寫了世界近代史上的軍事小故事，用英語講述歷史中那些驚心動魄的戰爭。
懦夫？
At the outbreak of World War I, Harry Farr, who was 23, joined the British army, and fought in the trenches. In May 1915, he collapsed with strong convulsions. In hospital, he shook all the time, and could not even hold a pen. His symptoms were consistent with shellshock. Despite this, he was sent back to the front. After several months of fighting, he asked to see a medical orderly, but was refused.In September 1916, Farr refused to go to the trenches. He was court-martialled, found guilty of"misbehaving before the enemy in such a manner as to show cowardice", and sentenced to be executed. The trial lasted only 20 minutes.He refused a blindfold at his execution. John Laister, a member of the firing squad, talked about it before he died in 1999:"There were tears in his eyes and tears in mine.
"第一次世界大戰爆發時，二十三歲的哈利．法爾加入英軍，據戰壕對敵。一九一五年五月，他不支倒下，身體劇烈抽搐，送到醫院后，還是不住顫抖，連筆都拿不穩，看病征，是患了彈震癥。但他還是被遣回前線，打仗打了幾個月，要求看醫療護理員，卻遭拒絕。一九一六年九月，法爾不肯上戰壕，被軍事審訊。軍事法庭認為他犯了「敵人面前示怯」罪，判處死刑。審訊前后不過二十分鐘。法爾槍斃時，拒絕蒙上眼睛。行刑隊員約翰．萊斯特一九九九年去世前憶述當時情景：「他兩眼含淚，我也淚盈兩眼。」
