in 1209, simon de montfort led a crusade against the cathars in southern france and took the town of beziers. when the town was sacked, a question arose over how its upstanding christians might be distinguished from the damned heretics. monfort's solution was simple:"kill them all. the lord will know his own."..tens of thousands of men, women, and children were consequently killed.
一二○九年，一支十字軍由孟福爾率領(lǐng)，進(jìn)犯法國(guó)南部卡特里派教徒，攻下了貝濟(jì)耶城，準(zhǔn)備洗劫，問(wèn)題是難以分辨城中持守正道的基督教徒和罪該萬(wàn)死的異端教徒。孟福爾有個(gè)很簡(jiǎn)單的辦法：「格殺勿論。天主之徒，天主自會(huì)分辨。」數(shù)以萬(wàn)計(jì)成年男女以至兒童于是被殺。
【解說(shuō)】christian就是基督徒，但「基督（christ）徒」三字常被誤解。年前我有文章說(shuō)「曾蔭權(quán)是基督徒」，不少讀者就來(lái)信說(shuō)「他其實(shí)是天主教徒」，殊不知christians包括天主教徒（catholics）和新教徒（protestants）。假如十六世紀(jì)興起的新教才可稱為基督教，天主教徒胸前就不得掛耶穌基督的十字架了。
