很久很久以前，有一個車夫。一天，他正駕著馬車在路上行駛。忽然前面跳來一只螳螂，舉起鐮刀一樣的前腿，惡狠狠地擋住車輪的前進。車夫沒有理會這只愚蠢的螳螂，徑直往前行駛。當然，螳螂的身體很快被滾動的車輪壓扁了。
后來，這個成語就被用來形容一些狂妄自大的人，他們想做遠遠超過自己能力范圍以外的事情，結果是很凄慘的。

A long time ago,a carter was driving his cart,when a mantis jumped out in front of the cart. Raising its forelegs,it tried to block the way of the cart. The carter thought how ridiculous this inscet was,then moved on forwards. Easy to imagine,the fool but rather bold mantis was crushed by the rolling wheels.
Nowadays,this idiom is used to mean overrating the ability of oneself and trying to do what is beyond one's power. The result can be nothing but failure.
